The REA is pleased to be hosting a Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) member meeting with DESNZ colleagues. The member meeting will take place on MS Teams at 13:30 on Tuesday 18th of April.

Last week, the government has launched the mid-scheme review of the GGSS, which proposes several changes to the scheme’s application process and payment calculation formula. The government is proposing to extend the application deadline to the scheme to 31 March 2026, which is good news for the industry.

DESNZ is not proposing to change the 50/50 waste/crop feedstock rules or the digestate management requirements. They are also not proposing to change the scheme to allow for the use of existing plant, which is disappointing for the industry. The REA understands that there may be an opportunity to engage further with DESNZ on this issue, and they are open to detailed engagement on the matter. The consultation closes 18 May, and DESNZ hopes to publish a government response ‘late summer’, with any changes to regulations occurring by end March 2024.
