Sizzle have launched the Enrich the Earth project, which with funding from the Esmee Fairburn Foundation brings together a coalition of over 20 organisations to deliver systemic change in dealing with food and green waste from UK households and replacing demand for peat.

The project aims to make an impact in four areas:

• Identifying and mapping the legislative obstacles to a sustainable use of food and green waste.
• Demonstrating the effectiveness of food and garden waste in compost as an alternative to peat-based horticultural products, in collaboration with both professional and amateur growers.
• Trialling new ways of reducing contamination in food and garden waste.
• Promoting local composting solutions to minimise emissions from waste transport.

A lot of the trials and partnerships related to the project are focused in the North East of England.
