REA comment on Britain’s first all-electric bus town
- DfT launches Britain’s first fully electric bus town
- Government to offer to £50m for a local authority to make the switch to 100% electric buses
- Initiative is part of £170m fund to encourage more people to take the bus
- REA comments
Commenting on today’s announcement of Britain’s first all-electric bus town, Daniel Brown, Policy Manager and EV Lead at the REA said:
“This is a forward-thinking initiative from Government that will support those pioneering British companies and local authorities who are striving to deliver on our Net Zero goals.
“Bus decarbonisation is a great area for Government to target – conventional buses represent a major source of urban air quality issues and they are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. By taking a joined-up view and supporting both the infrastructure and vehicles, Government is demonstrating its commitment to building a world-class EV infrastructure network whilst creating green jobs.
“We hope such a project will demonstrate the efficacy and affordability of electric buses, which will help the private sector replicate this project in other communities.”
