REA comments on Innovating to Net Zero report
Dr Nina Skorupska CBE, Chief Executive of the REA said:
“I am pleased to see the launch of Energy Systems Catapult ‘Net Zero’ report. It is a great report that rightly recognises that we need to take a whole systems approach to achieving our Net Zero targets and incorporate all of the renewable energy and clean technologies at our disposal. There will be no silver bullet when it comes to achieving our Net Zero targets.
“We particularly welcome the emphasis on the important role Bioenergy and Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage will play in the power sector. We would urge Energy Systems Catapult to go even further to assess the impact Bioenergy could have across heat and transport; which according to our own statistics could contribute to 11% of the UK’s heating needs over the next 6 years and generate carbon reductions equivalent of taking 1.3 million cars off the road.
“Going forward Government must take action to progress the options outlined in the report and integrate these recommendations into their Net Zero strategy.”
