The DfT recently issued a consultation on Increasing the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation buy-out price to ensure continued greenhouse gas savings.
Two questions were posed – should the buy-out price be increased? And if so, to 40p or 50p/litre?
The REA response called for it to be increased to 50p/litre, and also made the point that when the GHG savings obligation falls away in 2020, there is a risk that the UK will start to attract biofuels with lower GHG savings. The REA wants to see the GHG savings obligation (i.e. the Motor Fuel Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Regulations) reinstated as soon as possible.
