Members Townhall – REA Review of Electricity Market Arrangements Report Development
Meeting Details
Wednesday 3rd May, 13.30 – 15.30
Online
The REA has been working with academic Dr Chris Harris (University of Bath) and our REMA Task and Finish group to develop a new industry report responding to current debates around the design of wholesale energy markets. The report will consider what changes may be needed to deliver a market that promotes renewable and clean technology deployment, while also appropriately rewarding flexibility.
The report is a response to the ongoing Government workstream on the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), which the REA have already been actively feeding into and which we expect further consultations on this Autumn. As such, the report to will help influence Government’s next steps and upcoming proposals.
This virtual town hall meeting is an opportunity for us to get wider membership feedback on what we are looking to say in the report, which is expected to be published at the end of June. We will set out how the REA supports an evolutionary approach to market design, considering options for how we best evolve existing market mechanisms, particularly the CfD, to address current energy market concerns. We shall also be considering how greater flexibility signals could be built into existing market arrangements.
