The Resources and Waste Strategy for England (RWS), published in 2018, sets out plans to preserve material resources by minimising waste, promoting resource efficiency, and moving towards a circular economy in England. To monitor the implementation of RWS, Defra publishes a progress report annually. The 2024 edition has been published, and you can download it here.
The fourth edition of Monitoring Progress includes a comprehensive framework of indicators that tracks advancements towards the objectives outlined in the RWS using the latest available data. This edition introduces sources and details for each indicator, integrating relevant goals from the Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP) and the government’s 25-Year Environment Plan (25YEP).
