On 16th April, the Environment Agency launched a consultation on proposed increases for regulatory charges associated with two schemes.
As a public body, the EA must fully recover the cost of their services, in line with HM treasury guidance on managing public money. The EA is experiencing an increase in the costs of delivering services due to factors such as rising employment costs and increased inflationary pressures. Therefore, the consultation proposes ‘a one-off increase for 2025 to some of the charges’ in two schemes:
- The Environment Agency (Environmental Permitting and Abstraction Licensing) (England) Charging Scheme 2022
- The Waste (Miscellaneous)(England) Charging Scheme 2018
The aim of the increased charges is to accommodate the EA’s rising costs of service, thereby enabling the EA fully recover its costs.
Read the full consultation here. The deadline for responses is Wednesday 28th May. Please forward any comments or feedback to inform the REA response to Megan (mmuller-girard@r-e-a.net) by Friday 16th May.
