REA’s Energy Transition Readiness Report (ETRI) report, launched 8th November 2023, assesses the readiness of 14 European countries for the energy transition, from the perspective of investors, looking at flexibility services that support deployment of renewable power and decarbonisation.

The ETRI 2023 study updates the ranking of the 13 countries (UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland) covered in previous editions of this report, to measure progress over the past year, and now additionally includes Greece as our 14th country.

The report describes some of the key electricity market characteristics for each country, assessing the current and future need for flexible power resources. This year, the report takes a special look into the impact of the US Inflation Reduction Act and EU Green Deal Industrial Plan, and the ‘flexibility gap’ between each country’s target for variable renewable energy generation and the associated flexibility required to reach those targets.
