Invitation to Decarbonising Transport report launch – Monday 23rd May
Local councillors are invited to attend a parliamentary event on 23rd May, exploring the local action required to decarbonise transport.
The Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA) and Hitachi Energy would like to invite you to the launch of a new report on ‘Decarbonising Transport: Enabling local energy solutions’ on Monday 23rd May 2022 at the Houses of Parliament in Committee Room 14, between 1pm – 2.30 pm.
The event will be hosted by Huw Merriman MP, Chair of Transport Select Committee and will feature a panel discussion Chaired by Ian Funnell, CEO Hitachi Energy.
The invited panel are:
- Bob Hull, Director of Riverswan, Energy Advisor and author of the report
- Fran Collins, Chair of Maritime Transport Action Group
- Mike Harris, Chief Executive Southampton City Council
- Ian Cameron, Head of Customer Service and Innovation at UK Power Networks (UKPN)
- Alan Whitehead MP, for Southampton Test and Shadow Minister for Energy
The report is an analysis of the energy requirements to deliver Net Zero transport systems in local areas across the UK. The report uses Southampton and the Solent as a case study as it is one of few that includes national transport hubs across land, sea, and air. The findings indicate that, to achieve Net Zero across all these modes of transport, significant investment and leadership are required to fund and co-ordinate action at a local level.
Transport Minister, Trudy Harrison MP, has also been invited to join us at the event to respond to the findings of the report.
We hope that you can join us; please RSVP to [email protected] as soon as possible to secure your place.
Warm regards,
Dr Nina Skorupska CBE
Chief Executive of the REA
