The REA is participating on the advisory panel aimed at reducing biodegradable waste to landfill in Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland (NI) Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has asked the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to understand how a restriction or ban on biodegradable waste to landfill could be implemented in NI. As part of the advisory panel, the REA will support work in assessing feasibility, providing advice, and input and feedback in relation to the potential for restricting or banning biodegradable waste
The move follows recommendations made in the CCC’s recommendations on how NI can meet its carbon budget requirements for NI to reduce or eliminate biodegradable waste going to landfill.
Please contact Jenny Grant who is sitting on the panel here with any questions, and see a briefing on the work commissioned by DAERA here.
