Environmental Advances recently published an article titled “Plastics and other extraneous matter in municipal solid waste compost: A systematic review of sources, occurrence, implications and fate in amended soils” authored by Francis Okori, Jakob Lederer, Allan John Komakech, Therese Schwarzbock, and Johann Fellner (read full article here). The article covers the management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) through composting and the challenges posed by physical contaminants in MSW feedstocks.
The article covers different types of MSW composting and compost, so care should be taken when reading on whether each finding reported is referring to composting of / compost from source-separated biowastes and/or the organic fraction mechanically separated from mixed/residual waste.
