The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) holds regular Resources and Waste Joint Engagement Forums to provide regulatory updates to the sector. The delivery of Defra’s Resources and Waste strategy has been an ongoing topic in these forums, and the new Government seems keen to ramp up the delivery of the Resources and Waste Strategy and new Circular Economy policies.
At the August forum, Defra provided a Resources and Waste Reforms Roadmap to 2025 to increase clarity around delivery timelines. This roadmap includes key targets for Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging (pEPR), Simpler Recycling (SR), Digital Waste Tracking (DWT), and the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
We encourage REA members to review this roadmap and consider potential impacts for your businesses. If you have questions about this timeline or specific Resources and Waste Strategy policies, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
